Corral Boss/Head wrangler  wanted for year around Guest Ranch and Riding stable. We are looking for a person with extensive experience  with horses and people in the Guest Ranch and Riding Stables business. The Corral Boss is directly responsible for supervising and running all aspects of the horse corral operations.  He is the lead man in the corral is responsible for supervising the crew and making sure all their duties are carried out as directed.The Corral Boss is responsible for the care of the livestock including doctoring, feeding schedule, shoeing schedule saddling and tacking, maintaining tack, and maintaining the equipment, machines, and the buildings. One of the most important duties is evaluating the guest and sizing up the horse and rider and picking horses for the guest.The ability to train and ride colts in preparation for the string is also important.The Corral Boss must have the ability to lead, motivate, and supervize the crew to make sure they are accountable for performing their duties as expected.  Great people skills are a must as our business is all about giving our guest a great experience.

Job Description

Working under the direction of the Lodge and Office Managers, and in cooperation with other service staff, the main responsibilities of the Guest Services Hosts are to interact with guests with professionalism and grace, while performing all related office and floor duties, during day and evening shifts. Hosts are responsible for enthusiastically welcoming guests, setting the tone and then properly maintaining the Ranch welcome throughout their stay with attentive service and careful attention to the details of host tasks. Daytime shifts are more focused on office responsibilities; the evening shifts are more involved with the dining and beverage program, as well as performance of office functions. Hosts will be trained and able to work AM and PM guest services shifts. Responsibilities include: acquainting guests with our program and available activities at check-in and throughout their stay, assisting in planning and booking activities and appointments, retail sales, billing, check-outs, making reservations and appropriate follow-up, handling phone calls and emails, generating daily and weekly guest reports, fielding communications received by the office and disseminating information appropriately, seating and servicing guests during the dinner hour, including beverage service. Hosts also will provide assistance to the Office Manager, e.g., with paperwork and routine tasks, as requested. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

The tasks and duties of this position require a hard working individual willing to work long hours with flexibility, a team spirit, must be able to work without a great deal of supervision, and must be able to take and follow directions. Located on 590 deeded acres, and over 300,000 acres of outfitter area, the ranch is a 1.5 hour drive from the Spokane International Airport, near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
 

Wranglers are responsible for maintaining the health and condition of the horses and other livestock and for maintaining the safe, functional and clean condition of the barn facilities and outdoor recreation equipment/facilities. Guide/Wranglers lead trail rides AND provide instruction for riders of all riding abilities and ages. In ADDITION, Wrangler staff will also be guiding other ranch activities to include sporting clays, helping the Kids’ Program, mountain bike tours, challenge course & high ropes course, fishing, hiking, and other guest activities. The ranch has a large herd of horses to care for and horseback rides are continually leaving for scenic vistas, mountain trails, 1/2 and full day rides. You’ll have the opportunity during your summer to operate ranch equipment, vet and care for the herd, help out with general ranch work, maintain facilities and grounds, and take part in other guided activities at the ranch. Guide/Wrangler positions are available from May through August, September, and October. This position is being offered with housing (a dorm room with roommate and common area) and meals.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading horseback rides in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest
  • Care and Maintain the herd of horses (vetting, feeding, grooming)
  • Teach basic horsemanship and aid our guests in developing their horseback riding skills
  • Maintain the tack barn, corrals, trails, and other facilities
  • Participate in evening guest/employee activities such as concerts, campfires, cookouts, etc.
  • Take part in other guided activities on the ranch including sporting clays, mountain biking, challenge course and high ropes course, fishing, hiking, archery, and kayaking
  • Hep to maintain trails, pastures, and fences and participate in other ranch chores.

Experience Needed:

  • Extensive and considerable horse experience is required. (All areas of horsemanship including riding, grooming, feeding, tack, minor veterinary care, etc.)
  • Both English and western horsemanship backgrounds considered
  • Ability to truly handle a horse in a variety of situations
  • Ability to mount and dismount without assistance
  • Tractor driving experience considered
  • Barb wire and high tensile fence experience preferred
  • Cattle work is not required
  • Trail maintenance preferred
  • Previous First aid/CPR certification preferred, but not required
 

1.1 Guiding In Idaho

To guide in Idaho, a person must be employed by (not contracted with) an outfitter and then must be licensed by that outfitter as a guide. Red Horse Mountain Ranch is a licensed outfitter for Unit 3, or over 300,000 acres of Idaho Panhandle National Forest and the Red Horse Mountain Ranch.

Duties of a guide. Any guide providing personal services for an outfitter in the State of Idaho shall conform to the standard of care expected of members of his profession and he shall comply with all duties and requirements placed on him by Chapter 21, Title 36, Idaho Code, and by the rules promulgated by the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board created by Chapter 21, Title 36, Idaho Code.

1.2 What is a Guide?

A “guide" is an individual who meets the criteria as set forth in Idaho Code 36-2102(c), and has further met the required qualifications as prescribed in the Rules to provide professional guided services to clientele in the pursuit and conduct of licensed activities. A guide is employed by a licensed outfitter to furnish personal services for the conduct of outdoor recreational activities directly related to the activities for which the employing outfitter is licensed. Any such person not employed by a licensed outfitter who offers or provides facilities or services as specified in subsection (b) of this section shall be deemed in violation of the provisions of this chapter, except: (1) any employee of the State of Idaho or the United States when acting in his official capacity, or (2) any natural person who is employed by a licensed outfitter solely for the following activities: caring for, grooming or saddling of livestock, cooking, woodcutting, and transporting people, equipment and personal property on public roads shall be exempt from the provisions of this chapter.

Camp Helper, Etc -A person whose sole responsibility is any one or a combination of the following shall not be required to have a guide's license: care, grooming and saddling of livestock, cooking or woodcutting at or within designated outfitter camps, or transporting people, equipment and personal property on public roads.

 

An applicant for an outfitter, designated agent or guide license must meet the following criteria:

Age: Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. (21 and over required for Red Horse Mountain Ranch)
First Aid: Anyone who wishes to guide must hold a current first aid card and be aware of general emergency procedures.
Knowledge: They must have extensive, first-hand knowledge of the area and/or waters and/or activities involved in the proposed operation.
Training: Have completed and demonstrated to the IOGLB (Red Horse Mountain Ranch) proper training for the activity for a guide license.
Guide Trainee. A person not less than sixteen (16) years of age who does not possess the necessary experience or skill qualifications required to obtain a guide license, but who is working toward obtaining the necessary experience or skill qualifications. A trainee may not provide any direct guiding services for clients, but may assist while under direct supervision.

  • Must have skills in Western riding and horsemanship AND experience in working with a herd. Past guide or horseback leading is preferred. Past experience in giving horseback instruction is also preferred. Vetting experience is preferred.

  • Must Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to wear proper western attire including a cowboy hat, boots, western long sleeve shirt and be presentable in a good western image in dress and behavior.
  • Must be able to show strong safety for riders and horses
  • Must be able to show proof of First Aid / CPR certification or pass certification on arrival.
  • Must be able to communicate with tact and clarity, exhibit a patient and knowledgeable attitude with horses, animals, dogs, children and our guests.

We’re looking for a self-motivated, energetic person who enjoys taking on a wide variety of tasks, to fill our seasonal Bartender/Evening Entertainment Coordinator position. The Bartender is a positive, welcoming person who enjoys meeting new people and makes the guests feel at home.

Typical daily responsibilities include bartending every evening at the lodge and at the evening activity, filling guests’ drink orders at meals, maintaining the sanitary conditions of the bars and bar storage areas, setting up for the evening activities, encouraging guest participation at the activities (leading ice breaker games, dancing, singing karaoke, etc.), and cleaning up at the end of the night. Some additional responsibilities include being consistent in producing quality beverages, serving drinks to guests in a courteous and professional manner, and maintaining inventories at each bar locations.

Our bartender is a flexible person, who may be called upon to work in any department on the ranch, on a regular basis or a few times throughout the summer. Bartending experience is preferred. This position is offered from May through September with housing: a dorm-style house with common kitchen and living area (expect a roommate), and most meals.

Requirements Include:

-Must be at least 21 years of age.

-Must be physically able to carry 50 pounds up and down a full flight of stairs, repeatedly.

-Must be willing to work long hours, which are dependent on guest counts.

-Must demonstrate good communication skills, customer relations, and sound judgment.

-Must be able to work as a team player, work with minimal supervision, and be able to take directions from a supervisor, including managers of other departments.

-Must be able to accurately record alcohol purchases. Bartending experience is preferred, but not required.

-Must wear required uniform while on shift; dress appropriately while around guests. 

-Maintain a neat and clean appearance

-Must hold a valid Driver’s License with clean driving record and be able to drive an automatic transmission (the ability to drive a manual transmission is preferred, but not required.)

We're looking for quick-learning, energetic people who enjoy taking on a wide variety of tasks, to fill our seasonal Kitchen Assistant positions. We have two Kitchen Assistant positions available.

 

The morning shift assists the AM chef, from breakfast through lunch service. The afternoon shift assists the PM Chef through dinner and closing the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistants are responsible for maintaining the sanitary condition of the kitchen and food storage areas. This includes washing and storing dishes, sweeping and mopping, restocking inventory, and general cleaning and organizing. They are also available to assist the chefs with meal prep, help the servers with setting tables and cleaning the dining room, and fill in for the bartender. Both positions, especially the AM position, will assist the pastry chef in baking. Baking experience for the AM position is preferred.

 

Our Kitchen Assistants are flexible and willing to work odd jobs and long hours when required. Previous kitchen experience is preferred, but not required. The kitchen and food storage areas are on separate floors, so all staff must be physically able to walk up and down a full flight of stairs repeatedly each day and must be capable of carrying 50+ pounds up and down stairs and across uneven ground, as is necessary. Must be able to work as a team player with minimal supervision and able to take directions from a supervisor. 

This position is being offered from May through September with housing (a dorm room with a roommate and common area) and most meals. 

 

 

Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities include:

  • Properly wash and store dishes, including kitchen, guest, and staff dishes
  • Keep the dish area clean of food debris
  • Take out the garbage and sweep the floor as needed
  • Help check in and put up the food orders
  • Produce daily baked goods, including muffins, scones, breads, cookies, and desserts
  • Assist the chefs with food prep
